Salvini kidnapping trial: Doctor testifies that migrants on Open Arms 'in poor health'


A doctor who carried out an inspection aboard the Open Arms in August 2019 has testified in court. Former Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini is currently facing kidnapping charges over refusing to let the rescue ship disembark in Italy.

Tunisian shipwrecks: Six children among at least 13 dead


Two migrant boats overturned in the space of a few hours on Saturday off the coast of Tunisia. At least 13 bodies have been recovered -- among them six children and six women. About a dozen are still reported missing.

Grandma, teacher held over torture of eight-year-old

The police in Kano State have arrested an ‘Almajiri’ school teacher, Ma’aruf Muhammad, of Garbi Quarters, Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State for allegedly torturing eight years old Muhammad Garba.

It was gathered the teacher usually stripped the minor before using a USB cable to violently flog him across his back.

Gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu is reportedly dead.

Osinachi, who became famous for her hit song, ‘Ekwueme,’ reportedly passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022.

The Imo State indigene reportedly died at 42.

Covid-19: Lagos places US, Canada, France, 11 others on watch list


The Lagos State Government on Wednesday placed 14 countries, including the United States, Canada, France and Germany on the watch list in a bid prevent a third wave of Covid-19 in the state.

Argentine President tests positive for COVID-19 after jab

President Alberto Fernandez of Argentina has tested positive for COVID-19 despite being vaccinated against the virus.

The president announced his status in a tweet after having a fever of 37.3 and mild headache.

Lagos receives COVID-19 vaccines

 

Lagos State has received doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

They arrived around 4pm on Tuesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed.

He spoke at the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Tragedy as fire burn four family members to ashes in Niger

The Ancient city of Bida, headquarters of Bida local government area of Niger state was thrown into mourning on Monday as four family members were burnt into ashes in an early morning inferno.

Two wives and grandchildren of the owner of the building were consumed by the fire.

Pramodini Roul, 28, married Saroj Sahoo, 29, on March 1 in her hometown of Jagatsinhpur, Odisha, after first meeting in 2018.

Man dies after suffering three-hour erection from blood clots due to COVID-19

 

A coronavirus patient in the US suffered a painful three-hour erection due to a rare complication of the disease.

The unidentified 69-year-old, from Ohio was diagnosed with the condition, known medically as priapism, while in hospital with a severe bout of Covid last autumn.

Covid-19 vaccines to arrive Nigeria on Monday - SGF says

After weeks of expectation, about four million vaccines from the COVAX facility for the Covid-19 vaccines is expected to arrive in Nigeria on March 1, 2021 (tomorrow), the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, said in an interview with journalists.

Three Kenyan businessmen charged with selling expired and fake HIV testing kits

Three businessmen have been charged with selling expired and counterfeit HIV kits which they sold to unsuspecting customers locally and abroad.

According to the public prosecutor, the three also stole HIV test kits and exported them to Guyana, a poor South American country whose GDP is 18 times less than that of Kenya.

Man's skin turns bright yellow after years of drinking and smoking

A man grew a giant tumour that caused his skin to turn bright yellow – after decades of heavy drinking and smoking.

The 60-year-old man, identified only by his surname Du, was rushed to hospital in the central Chinese city of Huai'an.
