I can’t date a lady who asks me out, says Ugovin

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ugochukwu Obinwanne aka Ugovin has said dating a lady who asks him out for a date is a red flag.

The musician cum actor said this in a recent chat with The Nation.

According to Ugovin, the African culture and his family background is against women proposing to men. He noted that it is the western culture that must not be encouraged in Africa.

“I can’t date a lady who first shoot her shot on me cause am a full-blooded African and Nigerian,” said Ugovin.

He continues: “ What turns me off in a woman is when a woman asks me out first, no matter who you are, how beautiful or rich you may be, I don’t care if you shoot the first shot we are not ever dating simple.

“As well as someone who hails from a royal family, tradition says that a man can only approach a woman, so I can’t adopt the western life simply because a lady said she love me first! That sounds so funny tho!

“In my tradition, we strongly believe that any lady that shoots the shot first can’t really control herself. Although I am a full-grown born again Christians, I can’t still throw my tradition to the trenches.

Ugovin, who is also a Nollywood actor, has featured in movies like ‘Challenge me if you can’, ‘When money speaks’ and ‘Virgin priestess’.

On combining music and movies, he said: “combining music and movies is quite challenging because most times I will be given a role or called for a job when am recording. This was very challenging when I was recording my EPs.”
